in A Figther's Mind by Sam Sheridan they talk about this as well (pretty sure it's that book and not his first one A Fighter's Heart).
the main discussion is that those with natural ability often struggle when initially faced with obstacles, and that over time incremental learners find themselves better prepared for the long term grind of getting better at something as mentally and physically challenging as bjj, judo, wrestling et cetera.

there's also an article i read recently about 2 sisters trained from childhood to compete in chess. and that they disproved (Perhaps) the thinking that men's brains are better suited for distal-spatial relationships and that some of the thinking by chess grandmasters was antiquated at best regarding women being at a disadvantage in competitive chess.
basically, an argument against gender and brain differences between the two can be negated with the right long term focus in training and preparation and early exposure to the necessary skill building exercises.
