Originally, this tournament was scheduled for November 5-6 in 2011. Even from the very beginning though, details were hard to track down. Soon enough, it was clear that the NY Trials just would not happen on that date.
For a time, I would often surf the web, hoping to find some information here and there, but I was not successful. In fact, it wasn’t until I met Emilio, who was the promoter for last year’s NJ trials, that I gained some new information.
He told me that the date was set and it would be March 10th but the venue hadn’t been confirmed yet. So alright that meant that a choice had to be made between the San Diego and New York trials since they would both be on the same day. No problem.
Time passed and still information regarding the event was sparse beyond that conversation. This weekend though, I had the opportunity to meet one of the main organizers for the whole event while I was in Europe.
From that conversation, I got the distinct impression that the NY trials will likely not happen. The primary reason for that is the promoter for the event had quit, and they were not certain if the person they hired to take over would be able to get it all organized in time.
Now just yesterday a wall post was made to the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro Trials San Antonio FB page that listed the date of the event as March 11th. It also had a variety of other information related to the event.
